Disneyland was officially dedicated on July 17, 1955, on television and opened the very next day to the general public with much fanfare on July 18, 1955. The only theme park designed by Walt Disney himself, Disney was watching his daughters Sharon and Diane play at an amusement park when he got the idea. His original concept was to create a magical place where kids could play, which parents could also enjoy, and where family memories would be created to last a lifetime. To date, more than 600 million people have visited the Disneyland theme park, making it one of the most popular theme parks in the world.
